PYTHA - Saving Models As Different File Types

PYTHA - Saving Models As Different File Types

PYTHA allows users to save their model as a number of different file types/extensions, depending on their needs. These file extensions, and how to save them are listed below.

The default file extension for a PYTHA model is .pyo. If no alternative is selected when saving, your file will be a .pyo. All versions of PYTHA can open a .pyo, but only if they have been created in the same version you are running, or an older version.

Introduced in PYTHA 25 is the new file extension .pyox. This file extension was introduced to reduce the likelihood of PYTHA files sent as email attachments being blocked. Only PYTHA 25 and above can open files with the .pyox extension.

To save your model as a .pyox:
  1. Open the PYTHA File menu
  2. Select "Save as" (or press Ctrl + Shift + S on your keyboard)
  3. Enter your desired file name and save location
  4. In the Save PYTHA Project dialogue change the "Save as type" to PYTHA (V25) Project (*.pyox)

  1. Click Save to create your file
It is also possible to save a version of your model as a .pyov file, which can only be opened in the PYTHA Viewer. This allows you to send files to customers for viewing and approval, without them being able to give your file to another PYTHA user to manufacture from.

To save a version of your model as a .pyov:
  1. Open the PYTHA File Menu
  2. Click on Export
  3. Select "pyo for Viewer"

  1. PYTHA will warn you that a .pyov cannot be edited - remember to also save you file as a .pyo or .pyox

  1. In the Save PYTHA Project dialogue, enter your desired file name and save location
  2. Click Save to create your file
