PYTHA - Creating a New Materials File (PYTHA 25 and Above)

PYTHA allows you to create your own Materials files, allowing you to display true-to-life colours as part of your PYTHA model. Most major suppliers of materials (eg. prefinished board, laminate, veneer, solid surface) allow you to download colour samples of their products in the form of .jpeg images. The file type for a PYTHA Materials file is a .pymat

To create your own materials file:
  • Download .jpegs for your new materials and save them in your C:\Users\Public\PYTHA\Material folder
  • In PYTHA, click on the Materials menu

  • Select New mat file from the Manage Mat section
  • When the "Save PYTHA Material-File" dialogue appear, navigate to C:\Users\Public\PYTHA\Material and save your new .pymat file with the desired name
  • In the Edit Material dialogue box, enter the name of your new material
  • Click the box marked "Image" in the Texture section
  • In the Select Image Files dialogue box, select the downloaded .jpeg image for your new material

  • Click the "Attributes" button to add any material specific attributes, such as Edge Material and Grain Direction
  • Click OK to exit the Edit Material dialogue and return to your new .pymat
  • If more than one new material is needed, right click in the .pymat dialogue, select new and repeat the creation steps above
If you would like to add multiple new materials to your .pymat at the same time, right click in the .pymat dialogue, select "New from Textures...". Select all the .jpegs that you would like to create materials for and click Open. PYTHA will automatically add new materials to your .pymat file. These Materials will be named the same as the .jpegs used to generate them and will have the .jpeg assigned in the Texture field. You can then right click any Material and select "Edit" to add individual Attributes as mentioned above.

Note: If the .jpeg images used in your materials file are moved or deleted your materials will no longer display correctly in your PYTHA model.
